October 20, 2009 All
season long the Wolverines had great performances from their defense and their
running game. On Friday night it was quarterback Ryan Young's turn to shine in
a 38-14 victory over the Lasers that clinched at least a share of the Classic
Eight title. Young threw for touchdown passes of 45, 37, and 26 yards. He also
ran for two scores on the night. On the
games first possession West's running back Charlie Congdon
was leading his team down the field until he fumbled the ball inside the red
zone, preventing the Wolverines from first possession points. The fumble was
the only sore spot for Condgon against the Lasers, as
he finished with 131 rushing yards in 24 carries. A quick
three and out gave West the ball back inside Laser territory and with 2:39 left
in the quarter a Matt Jipson field goal from 32 yards
out gave the Wolverines a 3-0 lead after the first quarter of play. The
second quarter belonged to Young, who wasted no time in getting started. On
just the second play of the quarter Young hit Nick Tehan
for a 37 yard touchdown strike. With momentum totally on the Wolverine's side
with the Lasers unable to move the ball, Young took a one yard keeper and
scored with over seven minutes left in the quarter. Near the end of the quarter
Young took another run to the end zone from a yard out, making the halftime
score 24-0. Young
kept the scoring going in the second half with another touchdown pass to Tehan, this one from 26 yards out on a jump ball that Tehan reeled in. The Lasers finally got on the board late
in the third when quarterback Kyle Kita found Logan Solano for a four yard
touchdown pass. With less than a minute left, Young hit Nate
Angles on a drag route and Angles turned it up field in what turned into a 45
yard touchdown pass on Young's third TD pass of the game. Kettle
Moraine added another score in the fourth quarter on a two yard touchdown pass
from Kita to Sam Campbell to bring the score to 38-14 before the subs came in
for both sides. The
Wolverines look to make it an undefeated regular season on Wednesday when they
will host the 3-5 Waukesha North Northstars. Kettle
Moraine faces a must win game to advance to the post season against Milwaukee
Pius XI. Arrowhead 45 Arrowhead
receiver Russ Finco showed he may be the best
receiver in the conference with four touchdown catches against the Blackshirts. Finco finished with
8 catches along with the four scores. Tom Parish threw three of those touchdown passes in a 22
point second quarter. Jamal Wright and Brian Crook both had touchdown carries
for Arrowhead. The Warhawk defense held South to just 125 yards of offense in the game. Mukwonago
31 The Indians got their
first win off the season with a great team effort. Quarterback Derek Hasanoglu ran for 193 yards in the win while scoring three
touchdowns. Josh Tanguay also added a first quarter
touchdown run for the Indians. Meanwhile, the Mukwonago defense was also able
to hold down the passing attack of Christopher Aho
and keep the Wolverines out of the end zone. Aho
completed threw for 152 yards in 30 pass attempts, but threw three
interceptions as well. The loss also
knocks the Northstars out of the playoff race. Catholic
Memorial 49 The Crusaders put on an
offensive showcase to improve their record to 6-2. The 49 points are a season
high for Catholic Memorial. For the Popes, the loss knocks them out of the
playoff picture as they can no longer finish the conference season above .500. |
